We’re back with another rendition of Fun Fact Tuesday here at Statesman Ties. This week our featured country is Hungary, which inspired our Hungary tie.

Fun Fact 1:  Hungary has a very strong ‘spa’ culture thanks to an abundance of hot springs. Hungary boasts over 1,500 bathhouses throughout the country featuring Roman, Turkish, and Greek architecture. Perhaps the most famous and recognizable of them is the Gellért Baths (pictured below), an Art Noveau masterpiece built between 1912 and 1918.

Fun Fact 2: Hungary was founded in 897 and therefore is one of the oldest countries in Europe. It is also one of the largest countries in Europe, clocking in over heavyweights Germany and France.

My favorite fun fact: Erich Weisz was born in Budapest, the capital of Hungary, in 1874. Weisz became famous as an illusionist and escape artist. His tricks included escaping from handcuffs, straight jackets, and a Chinese Water Cell. He performed his last show with a fever of 104C and acute appendicitis. If Weisz is beginning to sound familiar – that’s because he’s better known as Harry Houdini.
