Welcome back to Fun Fact Tuesday at Statesman Ties. This week we’re talking about Ghana, the country that inspired our Ghana tie.
Fun Fact 1: Lake Volta is the largest man-made lake in the entire world. It’s so big that it can be seen from space! The lake covers nearly 4% of Ghana’s area. It took four years to build and 78,000 people were rehomed during the process. It is used for fishing, irrigation, trade, and power.
Fun Fact 2: Ghana is rich in natural resources. Ghana used to be known as the Gold Coast because it is the world’s second largest producer of gold. In 2007, “black gold” (aka oil) was also found off the coast. Ghana is also the world’s second largest producer of cocoa beans after the Ivory Coast.
My favorite fun fact: Ghana is Africa’s most peaceful country. In fact, freedom of worship is a constitutional right in Ghana. School children are taught to tolerate Christians, Muslims, and members of other faiths equally and there is virtually no conflict between these groups.
