Welcome back to Fun Fact Tuesday at Statesman Ties. This week we’re talking about Germany, the country that inspired our Germany tie.
Fun Fact 1: Germany is a land of inventors. Germans invented the light bulb, calculator, car, insulin, clarinet, pocket watch, television, paraffin, gasoline and diesel engines, motorcycle, jet engine, LCD screens, and even the Walkman.
Fun Fact 2: Neuschwanstein Castle (pictured above) in Bavaria, Germany was built for King Ludwig II and named after a Wagner opera, the Swan Knight (Neuschwanstein meaning ‘new swan stone’). Neuschwanstein Castle was Walt Disney’s inspiration to create the Magic Kingdom and is the castle that they based Cinderella’s castle on.
My favorite fun fact: It’s legal to break out of prison in Germany. That’s right – Germany considers the desire to be a free a basic human instinct so prisoners have the right to escape from jail. That being said, it rarely goes unprosecuted because destruction of property or inflicting bodily harm are still both against the law.
