We’re here with another round of Tuesday Fun Facts at Statesman Ties – this time on the Dominica Republic, the country that was the inspiration for our Dominican Republic tie. Let’s dive in.

Fun Fact 1: Dominica only has a population of about 72,665 people and Roseau (pictured below), the capital, is the largest city with a population of 16,500. Most of the island is actually covered in densely wooded mountains and rainforest. The terrain is steep and rugged with beaches covered in black sand or rocks. Dominica is even home to nine volcanoes – more active volcanoes than anywhere else in the world.

Fun Fact 2: In Puerto Plata is the Amber Museum where the famous mosquito-trapped-in-amber, featured in Jurassic Park, can be seen.

My favorite fun fact is the Dominican Republic flag is the only flag to have a bible on it. It is one of the oldest flags in the world. It has its roots in the Haitian flag of the 19th century, which isn’t that surprising considering before the Dominica Republic and Haiti were separated into two countries, the island was known together as Hispaniola.
