Statesman Ties PEZ Tie is inspired by PEZ candy and dispensers.
Invented in Vienna, Austria, in 1927 by Eduard Haas III, PEZ originated as a compressed peppermint breath mint marketed to adults as a smoking alternative. The name derives from "pfefferminz" (German for peppermint). Originally sold in tins, the iconic, cigarette-lighter-shaped dispenser was introduced in 1949, with character heads added in the 1950s for children.
We used the Juneteenth flag as the inspiration for the tie. The main symbol on the flag is the white star in the center. That had to be the main symbol we highlighted on the tie. The red and blue stripes from the flag were an easy addition to make this a true rep tie. There was some back and forth regarding the white stripe in the tie and how it separates the red and blue stripes. After talking it through, it was decided that the white needed to be represented more throughout the tie. It is also a nice contrasting color to help break-up the red and blue pattern.
