Statesman Tie’s New Mexico tie was designed to represent New Mexico State Flag. The design takes elements from the New Mexico flag to create a tie that can be worn at any time for any occasion.
“The flag of the U.S. state of New Mexico consists of a red sun symbol of the Zia on a field of yellow, and was officially introduced in 1925. It was designed in 1920, to highlight the state’s Native American Pueblo and Nuevo México Hispano roots. The colors evoke the flags of Habsburg Spain (the Cross of Burgundy flag) and the Crown of Aragon, brought by the conquistadors.
It is one of four U.S. state flags not to contain the color blue (the other three being Alabama, California, and Maryland). The Flag of the District of Columbia also has no blue.” (Source: here)
The New Mexico tie was designed to use the unique emblem from the flag and incorporate the colors of the flag as well. Yellow is the dominant color of the flag with red being the minor color, but we flipped that and made red the dominant color for the tie. The main reason is that the red thread would bleed through the yellow and make that strip of the tie look like a dark orange band was painted at a diagonal on the bottom of the tie and we didn’t want that. So, that’s how we came up with the final color scheme. As well, there are four skinny, yellow lines bunched together to form each stripe and that relates to the four rays on each position of the sun symbol on the flag. Meaningful, representative and classy; that’s what we were going for and we think that’s what we got.
The New Mexico tie is a great gift for missionaries, businessmen, and anyone who loves New Mexico. You can even add a personalized embroidered message on the back on the tie that the wearer will be sure to love! We hand-sew each tag onto every tie.
