Statesman Tie’s Netherlands tie was designed to represent The Netherlands Flag. The design takes elements from The Netherlands flag and mixes them together with one of their national symbols to create a tie that can be worn at any time for any occasion.
“The flag of the Netherlands (Dutch: Vlag van Nederland) is a horizontal tricolor of red, white, and blue. The tricolor flag is almost identical to that of Luxembourg, except that it is shorter and its blue stripe is a darker shade.
It originates as a variant of the older orange-white-blue Prinsenvlag (“Prince’s Flag”), introduced in the 17th century as the Statenvlag (“States’ Flag”), the naval flag of the States-General of the Dutch Republic.
Its official status as the national flag of the Kingdom of the Netherlands was formalized in 1937.” (Source: here)
The Netherlands flag has the same colors as many other flags, so we came up with a regimental striped tie with a unique logo at the bottom. The windmill is an unofficial symbol of Holland and very recognizable. As well, the color orange is really important to the Dutch – William I of Orange organized the Dutch revolt against Spanish rule, which after the Eighty Years’ War led to an independent Dutch state (Source: here). The color orange is a major symbol of pride for the Dutch and can be seen being worn by most supporters of Dutch sports. Knowing that, we colored the windmill symbol orange as a nod to the affinity for the color orange in The Netherlands. Simple, recognizable and a little fun; that’s what we were going for and we think that’s what we got.
