“The flag of Poland consists of two horizontal stripes of equal width, the upper one white and the lower one red. White and red were officially adopted as national colors in 1831.

The white, crowned eagle is a very important symbol of Poland and very recognizable. One of the original designs was simply a red tie with the eagle in the corner. The United Kingdom Skinny Tie is a simple, classy tie. The Union Jack is very distinctive, so we left it along and simply placed it in the bottom corner of the tie. We then added some red and white accent line on top of the navy blue background to finish it off. It’s simple and classy. Enjoy.

The flag of the republic of China (Taiwan) is represented as follows: “the twelve rays of the white Sun symbolize the twelve months and the twelve traditional shichen (時辰; shíchén), a traditional unit of time which corresponds to two modern hours. Sun Yat-sen added the “Red Earth” to the flag to signify the blood of the revolutionaries who sacrificed themselves in order to overthrow the Qing Dynasty and create the ROC. It consists of a yellow or gold Nordic Cross (i.e. an asymmetrical horizontal cross, with the crossbar closer to the hoist than the fly, with the cross extending to the edge of the flag) on a field of blue. The Nordic Cross design traditionally represents Christianity. For the Sweden Skinny Tie, we kept things simple and used the Nordic Cross from the flag as the focal point of the tie, but at the same time, integrated it into the flow of the design to keep the tie symmetrical and clean. For the Spain Skinny Tie, we had to play with the color schemes a little. If we were to place the coat of arms logo on a yellow stripe in the tie, the thread from the weave beneath the yellow would make a shadow show through and the yellow would look slightly brown. We didn’t want that. So, the red became the base for the tie and then we added in yellow accent lines to help frame the red. Also, there is quite a bit of black in the coat of arms, so we added a thin black stripe in the middle of the yellow to give the tie a little more detail. Simple and classy. We hope you like it.

“The flag of South Africa was adopted on 27 April 1994, at the beginning of South Africa’s 1994 general election, to replace the flag that had been used since 1928. The new national flag was chosen to represent the country’s new democracy after the end of apartheid.

At the time of its adoption, the South African flag was the only national flag in the world to comprise six colours in its primary design. Three of the colours – black, green and yellow – are found in the banners of the African National Congress, the Pan Africanist Congress and the Inkatha Freedom Party – and are thus said to represent the country’s black population. The other three – red, white and blue – are displayed on the Dutch tricolour and the British Union flag and are said represent the country’s white population. The green pall (the Y-shape) is commonly interpreted to mean the unification of the various ethnic groups and the moving forward into a new united South Africa. For the South Africa Skinny Tie, trying to implement all of the colors of the flag as well as the triangle portion of the flag into the tie was a daunting task. We had to extend top and bottom lengths of the triangle to keep the continuity of the lines along the middle part of the tie. Setting the shape of the flag at the correct angle was tricky as well, but once we figured that out, the tie angles ended up looking really good. We decided to use the green stripes throughout the rest of the tie because that was the dominant color running through the middle of the tie. As well, green seems to be a common color in many different flags of Africa. We hope you like it.
