“The national flag of Uruguay (Pabellón Nacional) has a field of nine equal horizontal stripes alternating white and blue. The canton is white, charged with the Sun of May, from which 16 rays extend, alternating between triangular and wavy. The flag was first adopted by law on December 16, 1828, and had 19 stripes until July 11, 1830, when a new law reduced the number of stripes to nine.

We used a unique turquoise color as the basis for the Uruguay tie. It make the tie look more sunny, which relates to the sun that is used in the logo, which is taken from the flag. One of our favorite ties simply because of the unique color.

“The state flag of Ukraine is a banner of two equally sized horizontal bands of blue and yellow. As a national flag, the blue and yellow bicolour has been officially used since the 1848 Spring of Nations when it was hoisted over the Lviv Rathaus. When Ukraine was part of the Soviet Union, the flag was outlawed and before 1949 there was no official state flag until adoption of the red-blue flag of the Ukrainian SSR. “The Texas Flag Code assigns the following symbolism to the colors of the Texas flag: blue stands for loyalty, white for purity, and red for bravery. The code also states that single (lone) star “represents ALL of Texas and stands for our unity as one for God, State, and Country.” The “lone star” is, in fact, an older symbol predating the flag which was used to symbolize Texans’ solidarity in declaring independence from Mexico. It is still seen today as a symbol of Texas’ independent spirit, and gave rise to the state’s official nickname “The Lone Star State” (Source: here)

The flag of the republic of China (Taiwan) is represented as follows: “the twelve rays of the white Sun symbolize the twelve months and the twelve traditional shichen (時辰; shíchén), a traditional unit of time which corresponds to two modern hours. Sun Yat-sen added the “Red Earth” to the flag to signify the blood of the revolutionaries who sacrificed themselves in order to overthrow the Qing Dynasty and create the ROC. Together, the three colors of the flag correspond to the Three Principles of the People: Blue represents nationalism and liberty; White represents democracy and equality; and Red represents the people’s livelihood and fraternity.” (Source: here)

“The flag of Sweden is the national flag of the Kingdom of Sweden. It consists of a yellow or gold Nordic Cross (i.e. an asymmetrical horizontal cross, with the crossbar closer to the hoist than the fly, with the cross extending to the edge of the flag) on a field of blue. The Nordic Cross design traditionally represents Christianity. The design and colors of the Swedish flag are believed to have been inspired by the present coat of arms of Sweden of 1442, which is blue divided quarterly by a cross pattée of gold, and modeled on the Danish flag. Blue and yellow have been used as Swedish colors at least since King Magnus III’s royal coat of arms of 1275.” (Source: here)

“The flag of Spain (Spanish: Bandera de España, colloquially known as “la Rojigualda”), as it is defined in the Spanish Constitution of 1978, consists of three horizontal stripes: red, yellow and red, the yellow stripe being twice the size of each red stripe. For the Spain Skinny Tie, we had to play with the color schemes a little. If we were to place the coat of arms logo on a yellow stripe in the tie, the thread from the weave beneath the yellow would make a shadow show through and the yellow would look slightly brown. We didn’t want that. So, the red became the base for the tie and then we added in yellow accent lines to help frame the red. Also, there is quite a bit of black in the coat of arms, so we added a thin black stripe in the middle of the yellow to give the tie a little more detail. Simple and classy. We hope you like it.

“The flag of South Africa was adopted on 27 April 1994, at the beginning of South Africa’s 1994 general election, to replace the flag that had been used since 1928. The new national flag was chosen to represent the country’s new democracy after the end of apartheid.

At the time of its adoption, the South African flag was the only national flag in the world to comprise six colours in its primary design. Three of the colours – black, green and yellow – are found in the banners of the African National Congress, the Pan Africanist Congress and the Inkatha Freedom Party – and are thus said to represent the country’s black population. The other three – red, white and blue – are displayed on the Dutch tricolour and the British Union flag and are said represent the country’s white population. The green pall (the Y-shape) is commonly interpreted to mean the unification of the various ethnic groups and the moving forward into a new united South Africa. The design therefore represents a converging of paths, the merging of both the past and the present.” (Source: here)

For the South Africa Skinny Tie, trying to implement all of the colors of the flag as well as the triangle portion of the flag into the tie was a daunting task. We had to extend top and bottom lengths of the triangle to keep the continuity of the lines along the middle part of the tie. Setting the shape of the flag at the correct angle was tricky as well, but once we figured that out, the tie angles ended up looking really good. We decided to use the green stripes throughout the rest of the tie because that was the dominant color running through the middle of the tie. As well, green seems to be a common color in many different flags of Africa. We hope you like it.
