It’s Fun Fact Tuesday again at Statesman Ties. This week we’re covering Dominica, the country that inspired our Dominica tie.

Fun Fact 1: Dominica only has a population of about 72,665 people and Roseau (pictured below), the capital, is the largest city with a population of 16,500. Most of the island is actually covered in densely wooded mountains and rainforest. The terrain is steep and rugged with beaches covered in black sand or rocks. Dominica is even home to nine volcanoes – more active volcanoes than anywhere else in the world.

Fun Fact 2: In Dominica’s Morne Trois Pitons National Park is Boiling Lake, the second largest hot spring in the world. At approximately 200 feet long by 250 feet wide, it is filled with greyish-blue water that is enveloped in a cloud of fog and mist virtually all of the time.

My favorite fun fact is that the second and third Pirates of the Carribbean movies, “Dead Man’s Chest” and “At World’s End”, had significant scenes filmed in Dominica.
